Re ‘Grandfather would be horrified’, (Letters 12 November), whilst “seeing through the spin”, I feel sure Nikky Govier’s grandfather would also see that the actions of the people in following government diktats has prevented the NHS from being overwhelmed.

It is the amazing dedication of doctors and nurses, and all NHS workers that has kept the fatality rate to less than one per cent.

They could not have achieved this if hospitals had been overwhelmed. Many thousands more 82-year-olds would have lost their lives. If grandad were still alive and vulnerable, might Nikky hold a rather different viewpoint?
