A MEIRIONNYDD school has raised more than £700 for charity.

Pupils and staff at Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn had a hair-raising time collecting funds for Children in Need.

On Friday 13 November, along with thousands of other schools across the nation, a cake sale was held which raised £137.60.

However, the main fund-raising activities were held on 16 November.

The theme was ‘childhood heroes’ and there were a range of costumes, including Batman, Robin, Buzz Lightyear, Andy Pandy, a spice girl and quite a few princesses.

The most popular event was a sponsored waxing session where three teachers and one pupil ‘volunteered’ for treatment.

The three teachers — Huw Williams, Mark Freeman and Simon Newby — said they were “very grateful” to Sarah Besant, Plas Talgarth’s beauty therapist, for making sure the experience was as painless as possible.

Whilst the victims may not have enjoyed their beauty treatment, the pupils and staff certainly enjoyed watching them suffer and a further £400 was raised in sponsorship.

Following a raffle and another cake sale, a grand total of £687.60 was raised for Children in Need.
