A cancer recovery patient embarking on a year of gruelling challenges every month will arrive in Meirionnydd this week.

Businessman Rob Lloyd will set off on his latest challenge - a Grand Tour of Wales - this Friday, running, cycling and walking 379 miles from Wrexham to Newport over 10 consecutive days.

He will arrive in Dolgellau on Monday, 6 December.

Rob, who starred in Channel 4’s The Secret Millionaire, is taking on the tour to raise money for the disability charity Sense.

In March this year, the 57-year-old revealed that he’d been treated for lymphoma and was launching his Sense-less Challenge to help people with complex disabilities.

Lloyd has already undertaken numerous crazy challenges including marathons, skydiving James Bond style; joining the SAS for a gruelling weekend of physical activity; scaling the Three Peaks and abseiling blindfolded down The Orbit - the UK’s tallest sculpture, dressed in his ‘uniform’ orange tights and a purple tutu.

“After having lymphoma and then undertaking really physical challenges at least once a month has been tough,” he said. “But this challenge, which is 10 consecutive days of running, walking and cycling, won’t give me any recovery time so it’s going to be especially hard on my body which has been severely punished since March when I started Rob’s Sense-Less Challenge.

“I will be covering 379 miles starting in Wrexham and following the coast down to Newport.”

He added: “All the effort will be well worth it. There really is a pressing need to help people with complex disabilities. The money that I raise will go towards the cost of a new centre to help families with complex disabilities in Denbigh, Wales.

“I’m proud to say that I’ve raised about £75,000 so far and I’m ready for the get go on 3 December. Anyone out there that wants to join me for a leg, check out my route map!”

Rob will travel from Wrexham to Denbigh and Rhyl this Friday before heading to Llandudno on Saturday.

From there, on Sunday, he will head to Bangor and on Monday, 6 December he will arrive in Dolgellau.

On Tuesday, 7 December, Rob will travel to Aberystwyth. The next day he will go on to Cardigan, then to Merthyr Tydfil on 9 December before heading to Ebbw Vale and Newport on Friday, 10 December.

The final day, Saturday, 11 December, sees Rob travelling to Newport before heading home.

Rob’s Sense-less Challenge concludes in March 2022.
