A SINGING group from Aberystwyth has narrowly missed out on a place in the final of new BBC talent show Pitch Battle – but could still go through with a ‘wild card’.
Elinor Powell’s Sgarmes wowed viewers on Saturday night with their Showstopper Edge of Glory, their Riff-Off with The 4 Tune Tellers and Kimmy and their stunning ‘solo’ round which featured the vocal talents of Kedma Macias, before going head-to-head with a cappella group All The King’s Men in the Final Battle.
Judges Gareth Malone and Kelis, joined this week by guest judge Bebe Rexha, struggled to choose between the two but ultimately decided to put the London-based boys through to the live final on 22 July.
Sgarmes organised a special screening of Saturday night’s third episode at Aberystwyth Rugby Club, where they also rehearse, as a thank you to friends and family who have supported them throughout the filming process.
Speaking after the event, Elinor Powell said: “We were absolutely thrilled to watch our episode in the rugby club on Saturday night.
“So many of our family and friends came to watch it with us and the atmosphere was amazing.
“Of course we knew how we got on through the show but a lot of our supporters didn’t, which made it thrilling for us to watch it along with them!”
Sgarmes still has a chance of reaching the grand final as the judges will choose one of the runners-up as a wild card, which gives entry to the final.
