MEIRIONNYDD’S premier big band is hoping to strike a chord with new members.

The Towyn Silver Band is holding its AGM in Tywyn this month and hopes to attract new players and volunteers to be part of the 140-year-old musical institution.

The event will take place at 8pm in Capel Bethel, Neptune Road on Monday 18 April.

A spokesperson for the Towyn Silver Band said: “The band has been entertaining, representing and enhancing the community of Tywyn for 140 years and we hope to continue doing so for the next 140 years as well.

“With that in mind, we’re looking for new members.

“It doesn’t matter whether you can play an instrument or not, everybody is welcome - we have instruments available for general use and can offer tuition too.

“Additionally, we are looking for community volunteers to help with the running of the band.

“If anyone can spare a few hours then we would urge them to come to the AGM this month so we can involve the community as a whole in the governance of the band.”
