THE redevelopment of a specialist ward to cater for kidney patients has been welcomed by an Arfon MP.
Arfon MP Hywel Williams says he strongly welcomes the redevelopment of Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Renal Unit following a recent visit to the specialist ward.
Mr Williams met with renowned consultant nephrologist Dr Mahdi Jibani MBE and Ken Jones of the Gwynedd Kidney Patients Association, who himself received two kidney transplants.
Mr Williams said: “This new renal facility at Ysbyty Gwynedd is one of the best in the UK, yet doesn’t receive the recognition it deserves. I was pleased to be given a tour of the unit and talk to those at the frontline of renal care in north west Wales.
“This development is testament to the commitment & vision of all those involved in the provision of care for renal patients at Ysbyty Gwynedd & throughout Gwynedd, particularly Dr Mahdi Jibani and Ken Jones who have given so much to treat and support kidney patients across North Wales for over 30 years.
“The unit boasts state of the art technology, complemented by modern, spacious surroundings and dedicated teams to support renal patients throughout their treatment cycle. This specialist ward will be a great asset to our community, providing fantastic quality of care.
“Patients will now benefit from additional dialysis machines and a pioneering new service which allows patients to self-administer dialysis at home, aided by real time Skype tutorials from the unit.
“This is an innovative and life-changing approach to patient care which enables those who live miles away from hospital to receive regular treatment at home.”
