I read with interest the feature in last week’s Cambrian News reminding us to check our vehicles as we prepare to return to the roads following the Covid-19 lockdown. But what was not mentioned was speed.

Like most I have tried to catch up on my garden and last week tried strimming an area of my property alongside of the road. Well, talk about taking my life in my hands! We are in a 30mph speed limit, although you would not think it, cars, vans and lorry skimmed past me at speeds well in excess of the limit, 50 60 seemed to be the norm, one car, I estimate was doing over 70 when he left the village!

I thought at the time, if I get knocked down and killed, the sad bit it will most likely be by someone who lives within five miles of me.

Over the last two years I have spoken to the police and crime commissioner, the council, the police, who pointed me to an organisation for speed concerns in Wales, all pass the buck.

So my hope in writing to you is that at least some drivers will remember that well worn phrase Speed kills and actually slow down and obey the speed limits.
