Madam,

Why should all of us have to travel on the drovers’ routes, from Aberystwyth, Llanon, Aberaeron, New Quay and far afield to Tregaron Hospital, when Bodlondeb care home closes?

As it is, Bodlondeb Care Home is fit for purpose for so many who are recovering from various medical treatments at Bronglais Hospital and for others from this area who are at hospitals in other parts of Hywel Dda, Glangwili, Withybush etc.

At Bodlondeb, you would have individual bedrooms; communal lounges; dining room; a garden; scenes facing the National Library, Cwmrheidol Valley, Pendinas, what’s left of Neuadd Goffa Park, as you walk around the grounds; and shops close by. I notice when I visit Bronglais Hospital, patients are confined to wards all day, sometimes for weeks, some having respite, not fully recovered, how depressing. Conversations are very polite, you dare not laugh, cry, to disturb other patients on your ward. Visitors, doctors, and nurses are divulging personal details behind curtains.

Why don’t the chief officers of Ceredigion County council and Hywel Dda Health Board come together, visit Bodlondeb, look at the three empty wings, make it possible now that they are empty to give them a little TLC, fit for all. Bodlondeb in Aberystwyth is the centre for bus routes, rail from Midlands, taxi service.

You do not have to go to Cambridge or Oxford to learn common sense, just go to schools in Ceredigion.

Yours etc,

Dai Thomas, Friend of Bodlondeb 1996 to 2017, Llwyn yr Eos, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
