TWO friends from north Wales have cycled from Conwy to Cardiff to raise money for life-saving cancer research.
Mair Jones from Tywyn and Debbie Wood from Llanegryn have covered a total of 270 miles’ cross country on their bikes over the course of seven days.
Through their pedal power, the friends have raised a total of over £1,000 which will be donated to North West Cancer Research.
Debbie and Mair (pictured), said: “We both enjoy cycling and we were chatting one day about doing something which would really challenge us and raise money for charity. We chose North West Cancer Research as it’s a local charity and the fact that so many people we know have been affected by cancer in one way or another.
“We put in some training whenever we could at the start of the year and then officially started the challenge three weeks ago on Saturday, 27 May, and completed the challenge on 18 June. It was fun but there were some times when it was tough going, especially this week pedalling away in the boiling hot sun.
“Thank you to everyone who supported us and helped us raise £1,000. We will keep our just giving page open for a little while longer just in case anyone else would like to donate to the charity.”
The money raised by Mair and Debbie will support life-saving cancer research projects at the North West Cancer Research Institute at Bangor University. North West Cancer Research has committed to funding more than £13m worth of research over the next five years.
Bobby Magee, fundraising manager North West Cancer Research said: “On behalf of the charity I would like to thank Mair and Debbie for helping raise this fantastic amount of money. With their support we will be able to continue to fund cancer research projects which will make a real impact locally.”
