A WOMAN who lost her grandfather to Alzheimer’s is calling on the people of Aberystwyth to help raise money to combat the disease this weekend.
Jenn Jones, who is organising the town’s fourth Memory Walk in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, has previously told the Cambrian News about the “heartbreaking” experience watching her grandfather, Tom Roberts, suffer the effects of the disease.
Tom sadly passed away in 2015, but Jenn, who works as a personal assistant at RH Environmental Ltd in Aberystwyth, has used her family’s experience as extra motivation to help put an end to Alzhemier’s, which she described as a “dreadful” disease.
Jenn, 27, said: “This is our fourth year running the Aberystwyth Memory Walk. I started the walk as a means of raising money for Alzheimer’s Society and awareness of the disease after my own family’s experiences.
“We would still welcome volunteers, participants and sponsors, so if you think you can help, please get in touch or come down on Sunday.”
The Memory Walk will start from Aberystwyth Bandstand at noon on Sunday, where participants will embark on a four-mile walk around the town.
Jenn and other volunteers will be at the bandstand from 11am and there will be a bouncy castle, children’s karts, face painting, tea, coffee and cake.
To join Jenn in her fight against Alzheimer’s, contact her on Facebook via the Aberystwyth Memory Walk page; by email at [email protected]; or by phone on 07974 521468.
