WI
This year is both the centenary of the WI movement and the 50th anniversary year of the Waunfawr WI, which came to an end with the November meeting – the AGM – on Monday, 2 November, in the Waun Hall.
This was a straightforward meeting, chaired by the president, Jean Eklund.
Bethan Williams, one of the Ceredigion county advisors, ably navigated members through the election of a committee to lead Waunfawr WI into 2016.
She then gave members an insight into her journey to India to Chennai, where she had attended a meeting of the Associated Country Women of the World.
She both enlightened the group as to the work of the association, which began in 1929, and spoke of her impressions of such a different culture while highlighting the sterling work undertaken by the association in supporting women in rural communities in over 70 countries throughout the year.
The next meeting of the association, attracting delegates from far and wide, will take place at the University of Warwick in 2016.
That means many more local WI members may be able to attend.
Plans are now well underway for the programme for 2016.
The December meeting will see Rita Roberts giving the group ideas on making Christmas wreaths.
A warm welcome is extended to all ladies of the Waun to join the group at the community hall at 7pm on Monday, 7 December.
