The Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampeter welcomed Elin Jones AM to draw the raffle on Friday, 30 October. The prize was the chance to win an antique Welsh Quilt, circa 1920s, from The Jen Jones Collection. Elin Jones is a great supporter of the Welsh Quilt Centre.
A large crowd, including Llanilar WI and artists Eirian and Denys Short, all came hoping to win the prize. Visitors from as far as Australia, Canada and New Zealand bought tickets. However, the winning ticket came from just over the border, Hereford, so this Welsh quilt won’t be going too far away. The proceeds from the raffle are used in the conservation of Welsh quilts because it is an extremely costly process.
Each year Jen Jones assigns an antique Welsh Quilt with the intention of exhibiting it once it has been restored. This year’s exhibition has received an exceptionally high visitor attendance, attracting visitors from all over the world.
The Gallery shop and Gallery Three (downstairs) will remain open until Christmas.
