Madam,

Readers will no doubt be aware of the weekly Saturday street stall of Ceredigion Labour Party, in Owain Glyndwr Square, Aberystwyth. It is hard to miss – clearly there is a serious challenge arising once again to the Lib Dem/Plaid dominance of local politics.

Yet while we see the usual roadside placard battle between those two parties, people might ask why Labour signboards seem very few and far between?

The answer of course is that the Labour Party does not routinely get the support of large land-owners, nor do we have huge donations of money to spend on elections.

Each plastic board is surprisingly expensive, and a great many are needed to make an impression!

What we do have is about a thousand members, mostly very recently joined, never before having been involved in politics, but enthusiastic about a new kind of politics.

And what we also have is an excellent local-campaigner candidate, Dinah Mulholland, who lives in Lampeter, with experience of life, and a real commitment to our communities.

Yours etc,

Maurice Kyle, chair of the Ceredigion Constituency Labour Party, Comins Coch, Aberystwyth.
