BEEF and sheep farmer Wyn Evans of Tynygraig, near Ystrad Meurig, has been elected as the new NFU Cymru Livestock Board chairman.

Wyn (seen right) farms at Nantbyr Uchaf, which comprises of suckler cows, store cattle and sheep, most of which are Tregaron Welsh, crossed with a Charolais ram.

Wyn has also introduced a Bluefaced Leicester cross Texel ram which he will be keeping replacements from. Wyn is always looking at how his farm can become more sustainable and hopes to grow more protein crops for the cattle in the future.

Wyn is currently chairman of the Ystwyth Valley agricultural discussion group, community councillor for Ystrad Meurig ward, and is also the current president of Ceredigion NFU Cymru.

Wyn said: “I am delighted to have been elected as chairman of NFU Cymru’s livestock board. I am very passionate about the industry and hope that, as a board, we can influence government and retailer decisions to help us achieve a more profitable future for Welsh livestock farmers.
