PENPARCAU fighter Sean Gorman is relishing the next chapter of his combat sports journey after signing with new promoters following a spectacular victory in his professional bare-knuckle debut.
Gorman stopped experienced campaigner Chene Ferguson in the second round of their clash at Warlords UK’s Cardiff show on September 12.
The 40-year-old fitness instructor and personal trainer entered the contest full of confidence and determined to showcase his skills.
“Fighting a veteran like Chene Ferguson, who has had more than 25 bare-knuckle fights, was always going to be a serious test,” said Gorman.
“My mindset was to use all my experience, stay calm and focused from the first bell, control the distance and avoid getting caught with anything silly early on. I worked behind my jab and stuck to the game plan.
“Chene started applying more pressure in the second round and, as he came forward, I countered and finished him with a left hook. It was an unbelievable feeling.”
The victory is another milestone in a remarkable comeback story for Gorman, who overcame a decade-long battle with addiction before becoming European Middleweight Hybrid Champion earlier this year.
Now he is set to return to hybrid boxing under a new organisation after becoming the first hybrid fighter signed by Warlords UK Promotions.
“I’m extremely proud and excited to be under contract with promoter Faisel and Warlords UK Promotions,” he said.
“It’s one of the fastest-growing combat sports organisations in the UK and to become their first professional hybrid boxing signing alongside their bare-knuckle ranks is huge.
“I’ve always been a gloved boxer at heart and I found hybrid boxing to be the perfect balance between traditional boxing and bare-knuckle fighting.
“And, if I’m honest, it will keep my mum happy knowing I’m going back to fighting with gloves on.”
Gorman is expected to return to action on the Warlords 8 card in Bridgwater on Saturday, 12 December.
