TWO junior cyclists from the West Wales Cycle Racing Team achieved national success when they competed in the Welsh Cyclo-Cross Championships at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay on 6 December.
Griff Lewis, aged 11 from Llangorwen, became the Under 12 Welsh Cyclocross Champion when beating a very strong field.
The Penweddig pupil can now wear the red jersey for any Cyclo-Cross event for a whole year.
“Winning the Welsh Championship, and the red jersey, has always been my dream,” said Griff.
“I could never have achieved it without the support of my parents, and also Chris, who has been a great mechanic, and mate.”
Ffion Morgan, aged 17 from Penrhyncoch, won the Welsh Youth Cyclo-Cross Championship, and the former pupil at Penweddig pupil also thanked her parents for all their support.
“Thanks to Mam and Dad for taking me to all the events, and to Brook Cycles, Welshpool and Raleigh bikes for their continued support. I’m really looking forward to the 2016 season already.”
Cyclo-Cross is cross country racing on specialised bikes, and consists of steep hills and obstacles where riders must dismount and possibly jump over hurdles.
The challenging courses at Eirias Park tested the riders in severe weather conditions, and provided a test of strength and skill.
Both riders have expressed their thanks to the coaches and orgamisers of the Ceredigion-based West Wales Cycle Racing Team.
