THE race for a top six place in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League took a new twist on Tuesday night as Carmarthen Town won 2-1 at Aberystwyth’s Park Avenue.
A second win in two festive games lifted the Old Gold level on points with their opponents, three points adrift of the split.
It was the Seasiders who broke the deadlock six minutes before the break when Jamie Reed was bundled over in the box and Chris Venables converted the resulting penalty.
But the visitors levelled on the stroke of half time through Luke Cummings, who fired into the top corner.
Eight minutes after the break, Cummings scored his third goal in two games with a low volley into the bottom corner of the net.
Reed sent an overhead kick against the visitors’ crossbar five minutes from time, but Carmarthen held on to take a deserved three points.
