FORMER club captain Bari Morgan is looking forward to a new challenge at Aberystwyth Town FC, after being appointed as the Under 19s manager.

Morgan, 36, made over 300 appearances for Aber in central midfield between 2001 and 2014, before moving on to coach at Penrhyncoch, whilst also having a role at Aber’s Academy.

He will be charged with bridging the gap between the Academy and Under 19s side, and ensuring a clear pathway into the first team squad.

Last season Aberystwyth Under 19s, under manager Emyr Jones, finished in seventh position in the Welsh Premier Development League (South).

“I’m proud to have been appointed as Aberystwyth Town’s U19s manger and looking forward to working with the talented youngsters,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to get back involved with the Club, and I am looking forward to working hard to get as many Under 19s players as possible promoted through to the first team over the coming years.”

Morgan spent 14 seasons as a player at Park Avenue after joining from Swansea City, where he was awarded a professional contract. An Aberaeron secondary school pupil from Plwmp, he was club captain, winning the 2004 Supporters’ Player of the Year award.

An ex-Wales Semi Pro international, he captained the side in the InterToto Cup tie against FC Dinaburg in 2004 and also played in the Europa League 10 years later against Derry City.

Morgan will be assisted by former Aber Reserves player Iwan Roberts.

“Iwan’s role will be to assist me in the running of the Under 19s squad for the forthcoming season. He will assist in the training as well as match day duties,” commented Morgan.

“I wanted someone I knew well and can trust, whilst knowing that he has excellent knowledge of the game.

“He has also been a big supporter of the Club, having played for many years with the Reserves, and we can’t wait to get started with the squad.”
