WELSH Alliance leaders Conwy Borough have reached the FAW Trophy final with a stunning 3-0 success over Welsh Premier giant-killers Penydarren BGC at Aberystwyth’s Park Avenue.

Inside a minute, Tommy Creamer freed Jamie Roberts to score, but the linesman adjudged the goal was offside, and five minutes later Corrig McGonigle broke free, but fired over the bar.

The deserved opening goal arrived on 14 minutes when Bren Hogan played in Cory Williams, who finished off well.

The lead was doubled on 35 minutes when McGonigle picked ball up some 30 yards from goal and he fired home.

The visitors forced a few corners, which the Borough back line dealt with, and in the second half Borough sat deep and soaked up the pressure from Penydarren without being unduly troubled.

Borough kept hitting Penydarren on the break, and in the 85th minute some superb play by Sion Hogan and GutoHughes down the left hand side resulted in a cross to Dean Seager, who got a well-deserved goal to secure their win.

• Conwy Borough will face Rhos Aelwyd in the FAW Trophy final after they beat Greenfield 3-2 in the all-north Wales tie at Airbus UK, Broughton.

Rhos opened up the scoring on eight minutes when winger Scott Reeves crossed to the back post for Tomas Davies to head across goal into the net.

Greenfield left-back Darren Johns levelled matters when he curled a free kick on the edge of the box into the top right, to make it all square at the interval.

Rhos regained their lead when James Haynes sent a high corner into the box and Tomas Davies headed home, but Greenfield levelled late on when a pass into the box was not dealt with and the ball ricocheted off substitute Dennis Piliner into the net for an own goal.

Greenfield’s Dennis Johns was sent off for a late tackle in the 85th minute and Rhos won it in the closing minutes when a deep free kick from Scott Reeves was misjudged by keeper Danny Stanton, and he tipped it over his own head and into the goal behind him.
