BORTH United slipped to their fourth defeat in five matches in the Spar Mid Wales League division one as goals from Ben Richards and Aled Jones earned hosts Tywyn/Bryncrug a 2-0 win on Wednesday evening.
For the second successive match, Borth conceded a goal in the first few minutes as Ben Richards intercepted a clearance and coolly slid the ball passed Jamie Evans for the opener.
Borth created some good chances as the half progressed, with Sam Middleton’s low shot going only inches wide, but generally the home team held the upper hand in most areas.
Only some superb saves by keeper Evans denied the home forwards, but Borth opened the second half well.
Evans relinquished his goalkeeping duties to bolster the attack, with Justin Davies taking over in goal, but Borth failed to find a breakthough.
They were punished in the final minutes when Aled Jones sealed the three points for the home side with a low strike into the bottom corner.
Elsewhere Jordan McFadden netted an injury time winner as Carno snatched the points against Llanfair on Tuesday evening at Ty Brith.
In a game of few chances, both defences were on top in the first 45 minutes with both keepers untroubled.
It was very similar in the second half, with Scott Williams having Carno’s best chance, when his header was fantastically saved by the Llanfair keeper from point blank range.
Llanfair piled on the pressure in the closing minutes from set-pieces and long throws, but the Greens broke and Peter Rees squared for Jordan McFadden to chip over the Llanfair keeper to secure all three points.
Richie Evans netted a late winner for Llanidloes Town as they overcame the challenge of Bow Street 2-1, to climb two points clear at the top.
After a goalless first half, Rhys Evans headed the Daffs in front on 51 minutes, but Llion Rhys Jenkins equalised for Street, only for Richie Evans to claim all three points with a great goal with 10 minutes to go.
Newly-promoted Kerry took the derby spoils in a 4-0 win over fellow newcomers Churchstoke as brace apiece for Luke Mumford and Max McLaughlin, against his former side, sealed the win at Dolforgan Park.
Richard Davies scored a hat-trick as Berriew beat Radnor Valley 3-2 to notch their second win of the season.
Trailing 2-0 at the interval, Radnor reduced the arrears through Geraint Lloyd, but Davies restored Berriew’s two-goal lead, before Ieuan Price curled into the top corner for 3-2.
Goals by Will Thomas and Neil Pryce earned Welshpool Town a 2-0 win over Llanrhaeadr, and Knighton Town beat Llandrindod Wells 1-0, with Connor Bird again scoring.
