DOLGELLAU were in full control against Penrhyncoch Reserves as the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League’s division one leaders registered a 4-0 success at the Marian.
Dominic Thomas led the way with a hat-trick and David Edwards also netted as the division one frontrunners notched their sixth successive win.
In the opening minute, Thomas sprinted clear and his angled shot went narrowly wide, but in the second minute, a defence-splitting pass from Joe Ephraim sent Thomas clear and he made no mistake to open the scoring. Charlie Owen saw a chipped effort drop inches wide, but on 15 minutes Dolgellau broke quickly, with Owen’s pin-point pass finding Thomas to run clear and double his team’s lead.
The home team continued to push forward, with David Edwards seeing his strike turned around the post by keeper Hefin Hopkins, who also denied both Mike Parkes and Edwards.
A 25 yard effort from the impressive Josh Abbott forced a comfortable save from the home keeper, but at the other end Ephraim side-footed wide from eight yards, with the goal at his mercy.
It was 3-0 on 35 minutes when Edwards squared the ball to put Thomas clear on goal, and he rounded the keeper to side-foot into the empty net, to complete a well-deserved hat-trick. Dolgellau remained on top in the second half as Ephraim lobbed the ball inches over and Edwards also missed the target, whilst Hopkins did well to deny Thomas after running through.
Further chances fell to Ephraim, who went close, and a minute later Josh Hughes forced a save from Hopkins, and Edwards fired the rebound over. Hopkins also did well to keep out both Edwards and Ephraim, but with a minute to go, Edwards linked up well with Ephraim, and this time he gave Hopkins no chance of saving.
