SIX days after their 3-0 Welsh Cup exit at Park Hall, Aberystwyth Town returned to claim an excellent draw at unbeaten Dafabet Welsh Premier League leaders The New Saints, courtesy of a superb strike from top scorer Chris Venables.

For the second week running, the Seasiders had found themselves trailing inside the first 10 minutes, as Matty Williams pounced to score after Chris Seargeant’s strong shot had been parried.

The Seasiders, however, kept their composure and they were rewarded for their efforts with 20 minutes left to play, when Venables levelled with a magnificent half volley from just inside the box, for his eighth league goal of the season.

It capped an excellent team performance from Ian Hughes’ men ahead of Tuesday’s rearranged match at home against Carmarthen, and after a tough double-header against the Saints, they will be glad to make a welcome return to Park Avenue.
