ABERYSTWYTH U19’s manager Bari Morgan has been delighted with the form of his side after the young Seasiders maintained second spot with back-to-back wins in the Welsh Premier Development League South.

The Seasiders have made a great start to 2018 with wins at Carmarthen Town, and Haverfordwest at home, to move within two points of leaders Swansea City, with a game in hand.

“It’s fantastic that we have started so well after the Christmas break, with six points from a possible six,” said former first team skipper Morgan.

“We have trained well over the Christmas break, and that has shown in the performances this week, we are playing with such freedom, which is what we are really trying to achieve.

“We want players to want the ball at all times, and to express themselves and play their game without fear.

“We realise that we must not get ahead of ourselves, however, and we have to turn up for every game, respect the opposition without fearing them, and earn the right to win.”

On a very cold Monday evening, the young Seasiders returned home from Richmond Park with a solid 4-1 win.

The first half was a scrappy affair, but Aber took the lead when Liam Doherty broke the offside trap and placed a good finish past the keeper.

Aberystwyth had a couple more chances to go further ahead, but then a lack of concentration off their throw-in led to the home side equalising.

Aber totally dominated the second half and the pressure told as goals from Harri Horwood, Jack Rimmer and Tom Evans secured their victory.

The game was watched by first team assistant boss Wayne Jones, who praised the team on the performance.

The Aber youngsters continued their good form with a superb 9-2 win against Haverfordwest on Sunday.

They raced into a 4-0 half time lead, and the second half produced another five goals as Aber’s pace and tempo proved too much for the Bluebirds.

Liam Doherty continued his fine scoring form with a fine hat-trick, and he was well supported with two goals from Harri Horwood and one apiece for Geoff Kellaway, Tom Evans, Jack Rimmer and Ianto ap Dafydd.

Aberystwyth U19s next game is at home against Cambrian Clydach on Sunday, with a later 3pm kick-off.
