Caersws’ defence of the Central Wales Senior Challenge Cup is over after Radnor Valley eventually won through 9-8 on penalties, after 120 minutes of football had ended all square at 3-3.

The Bluebirds opened the scoring when Ryan Davies headed home from a corner on the right, and with the wind sweeping behind them they continued to attack the home defence.

Will Fowden saved an initial effort from Rhydian Davies, but the keeper was unable to prevent him sweeping home the loose ball from a tight angle.

Callum Matthews flashed a 21 minute effort wide of the near post, but the Goats halved the deficit when the ball was scrambled home by Matthews, following a 44th minute corner.

Elliot Morris saw his deflected strike on target saved by the keeper in the 52nd minute, but the New Radnor men levelled matters six minutes later.

Morris went on a surging run to the byline and pulled a cross back into the danger area, and Joey Price volleyed over the goalline from close range.

Joey Price came close to handing the Goats the lead in the opening minute of extra-time, but he scooped his effort over off Geraint Lloyd’s through ball.

The Bluebirds, however, regained the lead when a 103rd minute free-kick into the penalty area was not cleared properly and the ball was forced over the line from close in by Craig Harris.

But then, with four minutes left, a ball out of defence found substitute Liam Jones in space, and the former Rhosgoch Rangers flyer drove down the right flank and the ball was turned home from close range by Joey Price, despite fervent appeals from the visitors that the ball had crossed the line.

The drama continued in the ensuing shoot-out as both teams failed once from the spot in their five attempts.

Their next four attempts were successful, before Matt Croose netted Radnor Valley’s 10th spot kick, and keeper Will Fowden was the shoot-out hero as he saved Caersws’ next attempt - and the Goats had dumped both of last season’s finalists out of the competition in successive rounds.

Bow Street are through to the quarter-finals of the Central Wales Senior Challenge Cup after they registered a solid 3-0 win at MMP Mid Wales League division two outfit Abermule.

The Magpies were clinical on a poor pitch as goals Steffan Richards, Tom Williams and Owen Roberts-Young saw off the challenge of a spirited Mule side that had battled all the way against their division one opposition.

Hay St Mary’s meanwhile bowed out of the competition with a 1-0 defeat at Builth Wells, despite having gone close in the first half through Greg Preece and strike partner Matty Tong.

Tong again went close in the second half, but Builth made the breakthrough on 84 minutes when a loose ball was pounced on by Will Cleaton, and his shot went through Frazier McNally’s legs and beat the stranded keeper.

Hay thought they had scored the equaliser in the 88th minute, but Tong’s goal was ruled out for a foul on Lee James, after being put through by the hard working Brendan Hackett.

Joe Haycock scored a hat-trick and Richard Davies netted twice as Berriew booked their place with a 5-1 win over Tywyn/Bryncrug,with Aled Jones scoring for the Meirionnydd men.

Meanwhile Andy Evans and Harry Vince-Holt both scored twice as Carno won 4-1 in their tie away against Kerry, who netted through Jordan Dean.
