BALA Town eased into the fourth round of the JD Welsh Cup with a solid 3-0 win over Cymru Alliance side Flint Town United in their re-arranged tie on Tuesday.
After floodlight failure had forced the match to be abandoned, the Lakesiders were keen to put the tie to bed and set up a fourth round tie with Haverfordwest.
Flint looked organised in the early stages, with Bala not creating many efforts, apart from a Henry Jones free-kick which went close. Bala settled into the game, however, and midway through the half they began taking a hold of the tie, and having plenty of the possession and some good balls into the box.
On 28 minutes Bala took a deserved lead when Mike Hayes did some fantastic build-up work and held the ball up well, before Jones crossed for Steven Tames to head in from close range.
Bala kept up the pressure up until the interval, with Hayes seeing his header tipped over by the keeper, before Jones’ powerful low drive from outside the area fizzed inches past the post.
The hosts suffered a blow when they lost Andy Brown to injury, with a suspected broken bone in his foot.
Flint then went down to 10 men when skipper Richie Foulkes saw red following an overly physical altercation with Tames, which also saw the Bala man booked and Bala took full advantage to double their goal tally.Home keeper Aaron Jones failed to collect the ball from a free kick, and presented Chris Venables with a tap in.
Play was getting feisty with tackles flying in, and yellow cards brandished, but Bala made 3-0 in the 70th minute. A fantastic break down the wing by Tames saw him cut into the area and square the ball to an unmarked Hayes to tuck the ball into the net.
The Lakesiders were cruising and they could have added a fourth in additional time when substitute Ian Sheridan rattled the base of the post from 18 yards out.
