LLANUWCHLLYN endured a difficult evening as they suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Newtown in the third of a daunting run of fixtures.

Playing under the floodlights against one of the Cymru North's strongest sides highlighted just how far Llanuwchllyn have progressed in recent years, but it did little to lessen the challenge they faced on Friday night.

The visitors made a steady start and matched their hosts in the opening stages despite being placed under constant pressure. Ilan Ap Gareth came closest to opening the scoring early on when his effort from a tight angle found the side netting.

Newtown made the breakthrough from a corner midway through the first half, with Jamie Hyne reacting quickest to convert from close range past keeper Rob Dascalu.

Llanuwchllyn remained competitive through hard work and disciplined play, but the game swung firmly in the hosts' favour shortly after the restart when Hyne struck again to double Newtown's advantage.

A controversial spell followed just after the hour mark when Gwydion Roberts was fouled in midfield, leading to a confrontation involving several players and a number of yellow cards. Llanuwchllyn felt one Newtown player was fortunate to escape a red card.

The visitors' biggest setback came on 69 minutes when key player Aled Parry was forced off with a serious shoulder injury. Moments later, Newtown capitalised to score a third goal by Hanoch Boakye and effectively end the contest.

Hyne completed his hat-trick in the closing stages to add further gloss to the scoreline and seal a comprehensive victory for the hosts.

The result was a disappointing one for Llanuwchllyn after an encouraging start, but they will hope to bounce back quickly as they continue their challenging run of fixtures.
