CAERNARFON Town’s revamped Oval will host a Wales Under-21 international for the first time when Cymru take on Austria in their final UEFA U21 EURO qualifier on Tuesday, October 6.

The fixture will shine a spotlight on the transformation of the Caernarfon ground following an investment of more than £1 million ahead of this summer’s UEFA European Under-19 Championship finals in north Wales.

Upgrades included the installation of a new playing surface and major improvements to the stadium’s changing room facilities. The Oval staged three matches during the tournament, welcoming Croatia, Serbia and Italy to Gwynedd.

The international fixture comes during a landmark period for the Canaries, who celebrated the first JD Welsh Cup triumph in their history last season and are now preparing to welcome some of Wales’ brightest young talents to the town.

Speaking after the redevelopment was completed, Caernarfon Town chairman Paul Evans told faw.cymru: “The work carried out at The Oval has transformed the stadium. It will be among the best in Wales, with fantastic modern facilities and a top-class pitch.”

The match will be Matty Jones’ side’s final outing of the qualifying campaign, following their trip to Belgium earlier in the international window.

Tickets go on sale on September 14, with kick-off details and further ticket information set to be confirmed in due course.
