NINE players from last season’s squad have committed to Aberystwyth Town’s first team squad for the next campaign, under new manager Tony Pennock and assistant Wayne Jones.

Striker Mark Jones, however, has returned to Afan Lido, the club where he had started his career as a youth.

Jones, 28, spent the latter part of last season on-loan to the Seasiders from his parent club Carmarthen, allegedly for disciplinary reasons - adding three more goals to a Welsh Premier tally of 80 from 188 starting appearances.

He had previously spent three and a half seasons at Aber from 2012, before joining the Old Gold in June 2015.

The registration window for 2017/8 opened last week, and Tony Pennock’s first team squad will include several key players from last season.

Keeper Chris Mullock, who joined the Seasiders initially on loan from The New Saints last season, will continue at Park Avenue, along with central defender Ryan Wollacott, who joined last season from Stourbridge.

January signings Jamie Crowther, who joined from Bala, Malcolm Melvin, who joined from Halesowen, and Dafydd Jones, who joined from Newport, have also signed forms.

Striker Luke Borrelli, who scored nine Welsh Premier goals last season after joining from Haverfordwest, has also committed, along with forward John Owen, who joined in the January transfer window from Llanudno.

Ceredigion-based players Cledan Davies and Jack Rimmer have also signed forms for the new campaign, but former skipper Luke Sherbon, having announced that he was leaving the club last week, has now signed for Cymru Alliance side Caersws.

Sherbon is set to line up against the Seasiders in August, after Aber were paired with the Bluebirds, managed by former Seasider Graham Evans, in the Nathaniel MG Cup first round.Full report in this week's Cambrian News
