LLANYSTUMDWY, who raised the Gwynedd League Safeflue Shield in triumph last season, are going to have to surrender the trophy after a first-round knockout.
Aled Jones’ team were beaten 3-1 at home by Aberffraw on a saturated Saturday, when four of Gwynedd’s planned six league and shield matches were postponed because of waterlogged grounds.
Llanystumdwy, whose Dwyfor Park pitch was one of the few playable surfaces, found themselves two goals down by half time following strikes from Aberffraw’s Connor Rees on 19 minutes and Andrew Jones on 25.
The home side’s plight was worsened by another Rees goal on 52 minutes and it was little more than a token reply when Ceirion Jones netted for Llanystumdwy in the 69th.
