ABERYSTWYTH University returned to winning ways in fine style in the Spar Mid Wales League division two last weekend by hitting visitors Bettws for six - helped by another hat-trick from Rian Devlin.
After being edged out 4-2 by Radnor Valley in their previous outing, it was the perfect response from the Aberystwyth students, with Devlin netting his fourth hat-trick in all competitions this season.
They dominated the rain-drenched encounter, but were frustrated in the first half as several chances went to waste, before finally taking the lead just before the half-time interval through Matthew Hunton’s 25-yard free kick into the top corner.
The floodgates then opened in the second half, with Devlin then scoring twice in quick succession to extend the lead.
A brace from Shaun Roberts made it 5-0, with his first goals for the first team, before Devlin completed his treble late on.
Victory lifted the University up to sixth position in the division two table, and with games in hand on all the sides above them, the students will be keen to continue to climb up the league standings.
The Aberystwyth students look to keep up the good work with two home games against lower league opposition this weekend, against Newbridge on Saturday, and Four Crosses the following day.
The Uni hope to be boosted by the return of influential player-manager Chris Warden following his recent broken foot.
