Tregaron Turfs Ladies completed the double within the Ceredigion Ladies League for the second time in five years, when beating Aberystwyth University 4-0 in the League Cup final at Park Avenue.

Goals from Lucy Lloyd, Siwan Richards, Kate Evans and Lindsey Wilkins sealed a solid victory for the League Champions.

They had to overcome a strong University side, however, who had competed in the Central Wales Women’s Cup final a week before - the first Ceredigion League team to play in that final in six years.

The League Cup final began at a frantic pace, and the Aber students looked to their hard working midfielders Shannon Mutch and Kayleigh Pomfret in the middle of the pitch to try and gain possession.

Tregaron found space down the flanks, with captain Karen Bulman and Kala Walker running continuously on either wing and looking to create an opening.

It was from the left wing that Turfs did manage to make the breakthrough, with Bulman’s cross being calmly slotted home by Lloyd for her 11th goal of the season.

The Turfs pushed hard for a second goal, but University keeper Kate Baldock who was equal to everything thrown at her.

The students were dangerous on the counter-attack, and twice beat the offside trap, with striker Margherita Cimatti creating chances. She fired straight at Turfs keeper Vikki Oakes, and then lashed the second chance into the side-netting.

Tregaron, however, netted a second goal just before the break. Lloyd played a clever ball to Richards on the edge of the area, and the 16 year-old coolly placed the ball into the corner to double their lead.

Uni changed shaped for the second half, and the introduction of new striker Tyler Smith caused problems in the back-line.

As the game went on, the Turfs grew more confident in attack and the chances started to be created once again; only for the excellent Baldock to deny a third goal.

It took a change in shape for the Turfs to beat Baldock, with Walker and substitute striker Evans combining cleverly in the area for Evans to slot in the third goal.

A fourth goal quickly followed, when a smart run and great finish from a tight angle saw Wilkins seal victory to complete another double for the Tregaron ladies.
