YSGOL y Preseli’s Years 9 and 10 athletics team did Dyfed proud when they claimed third place at the NASUWT Cymru Cup, held at the Penlan Arena Track in Brecon.
William Lloyd led the way for the Crymych school by winning gold in both the 80m hurdles (11.28) and high jump (1.75).
Osian Hill won silver in the javelin (31.73) and there were bronze medals for Gareth Thompson, in the 800m (2:12.87); Garan Croft, in the 1500m (4:49.53); and Morgan Williams, in the discus (27.07).
Adam Junaidean was 4th in the 100m (12.37); Andrew Salmon was 5th in the 300m (40.19); Joe Wilmott was 6th in the 200m (24.73); Morgan Clewer-Evans was 6th in the shot put (9.21); Ned Bennett 7th in the triple jump (11.17); and Gethin Greenhalgh 7th in the long jump (4.99).
Preseli’s relay team took second place.

A total of 38 schools from across the eight districts in Wales, including Dyfed, Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff and Vale, Eryri, Glamorgan Valleys, North East Wales, Powys and South East Wales had qualified to represent their region at the finals.
Six schools from the Dyfed district had won their respective age groups in the Haverfordwest area final last month, and despite a few heavy showers forecasted, it remained dry for most of the day, with a light breeze making for ideal conditions.
