ABERYSTWYTH Sevens, one of the biggest rugby festivals in Wales, took place over May Day Bank Holiday weekend in glorious conditions at Blaendolau.

There were three different tiers of competition, including Premier, aimed towards teams whose players compete at club level or higher; Intermediate, aimed towards teams with players who have some previous playing experience; and Beginners, for teams whose players have either little or no playing experience.

Preseli BaBas were triumphant in the top Mid Wales Travel Cup, beating HBYG 40-12 in the final, the Timberwolves 52-0 in the semi-final and the Para Eagles 40-0 in the last eight.

HBYG had progressed by beating Strictly Scrum Dancing 26-19 in their semi-final tie and Charlie’s Angels 26-5 in the quarter-finals.

Warriors were victorious in the ladies’ Tesco Cup, beating AUWR Blue Ferns 45-7 in the final, having defeated No Woman No Try 29-12 in the semi-finals and Sparrowhawks 27-0.

AUWR Blue Ferns had reached the final with wins over Hawaii Try Oh 10-5 in the semis and AUWFC Warriors 26-0 in the last eight.

Booze Brothers were winners of the Ffigar Cup, beating Inter Yournan 43-7 in the final, after wins against Lingboks 40-0 and Sparkly Starfishies 29-21 in the knockout. Inter Yournan reached the final by beating Sick Tries and Dank Memes 21-7 and Auckland BLBs 31-0.

The Hawiinkers won the Mid Wales Travel Shield, beating Wolfpack Legends 50-0 in the final, after wins against The Office Linebackers 24-0 in the semi-final and Quandro 7s 22-19 in the last eight. Wolfpack Legends had reached the final by beating Dirty Old Hawks in the semi-final 42-7 and Shelby Brothers Ltd 28-0.

The ladies’ Tesco Shield was won by Don’t give a Ruck, beating Wallaboobies 24-10 in the final, having beat Aber Sharks 19-0 in the semi-final and AUWR Pink Ferns 31-0 in the quarter-final. Wallaboobies reached the final by beating Girls Scouts 27-0 in the last four and Merched y Geltaidd 19-0 in the quarter-finals.

The Ffigar Shield was won by Walla Walla Wombats, beating Squirtle Squad 24-10 in the final, having knocked out Al-try-eda 34-19 in the semi-final and Los Angeles Dewi Stars 50-0 in the last eight. Squirtle Squad beat Towy Tigers 14-10 in the semis and No Luck Catching them Swans 29-12 in the quarter-finals.

Average Joels won the Mid Wales Travel Trophy, beating Agri Bulls 24-7 in the final, having accounted for Geohazards 20-7 in the semis and Blood Sweat & Beers 36-0 in the quarter-finals. Agri Bulls had beat Waster’s Y Geltaidd 17-14 in the semis and Aber Baa-Baas 19-5.

The ladies’ Tesco Trophy was won by Bush Rucker Try, who beat Agri Heifers 19-5 in the final, Girls with Altitude 17-12 in the semis and 7Up 26-7 in the last eight. Agri Heifers had beat Powder Puff Girls 50-0 in the semi-finals and Boozy Brothers 50-0 in the quarter-finals.

AUFC Egg Chasers won the men’s Ffigar Trophy 21-12 against Hawks, having accounted for Angry Beavers 28-0 in the semi-finals and Fish and Rice Cakes 24-0 in the quarter-finals. Hawks had beat Tryglycrides 18-5 in the semis and Hairy Beavers 36-0 in the quarter-final.

Mother Ruckers beat Budgie Smugglers 17-10 in the Ffigar Spoon Final. Shaktar RFC and Passe de Glitter were the semi-finalists.For pictures of all the winners at Aberystwyth Sevens see this week's Aberystwyth edition.
