As there was no senior nor youth rugby for Aberystwyth over the weekend it was left to the club’s formidable juniors to fly the flag for the club. Their opponents were the junior teams from COBRA RFC in mid Wales.

Four games were played away and two at home.

The results away from home were:

COBRA RFC under 8s v Aberystwyth RFC under 8s: result: 9-6 to ARFC

CRFC u-10s v ARFCu-10s: result 40 – 25 to ARFC

CRFC u-11s v ARFC u-11s: result 60 – 58 to ARFC

CRFC u-12s v ARFC u12s: 71 – 36 to CRFC

The results of the two games played at Plascrug were:

ARFC u-13s v CRFC u-13s: result 43 – 5 to ARFC

ARFC u-14s v CRFC u-14s: result 60 – 10 to ARFC

With one loss in six games Aber’s juniors showed that this section of the club is thriving.

Significantly, there were very few injuries despite the games being fast and competitive.

The standard of refereeing was excellent with good behaviour and player welfare being given priority.

Disappointingly, there was poor level of support from more senior players and members in Aberystwyth’s two home games.

This coming Saturday, 24 September, Aber’s 1st XV will play Newcastle Emlyn RFC at Plascrug in Division 1 West; kick off 2.30pm.

Aber Athletic will play Lampeter Saints away in the West Conference competition and Aber Youth will play Whitland Youth away.
