A CEREDIGION councillor has been appointed as the new chair of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Llanrhystud county councillor Rowland Rees-Evans was appointed at the fire service’s annual general meeting on Wednesday, 7 June, after serving a term as deputy chair last year.

Swansea councillor Jan Curtice was also appointed deputy chair for the coming year.

Cllr Rees-Evans said: “Having represented the authority as deputy chair for the last 12 months, it is a great honour to have been appointed chair of the authority for forthcoming year. I know that my tenure as chair won’t come without its challenges, but I am very much looking forward to the year ahead.

“Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is at the forefront of some of the most innovative fire and rescue technologies and I’m very proud to be representing the authority as its chair.”
