PROMINENT buildings throughout Ceredigion will fly the red ensign tomorrow to pay tribute to the Merchant Navy.

With the county’s historic ties to seafaring, its unsurprising that hundreds of Ceredigion men and women served with the Merchant Navy during times of conflict.

As a mark of respect, civic buildings in Ceredigion will on Thursday, fly the red ensign of the Merchant Navy.

THE red ensign of the Merchant Navy will be flown from prominent buildings across Aberystwyth tomorrow (Thursday, 3 September).

The ensigns will be hoisted above Ceredigion County Council buildings in Aberystwyth and Aberaeron.

Also, the Ensigns can be seen at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, the Marina,Trefechan and above the Harbour master’s office in Aberystwyth.

The purpose of the Merchant Navy Day is to recognise the sacrifice Merchant Navy seafarers made during times of conflict.

Ex-Seafarers may also hoist the ensigns at their homes/gardens.
