Carnival

THE week began with the swimming gala on Sunday at the swimming pool, on Monday the treasure hunt at the Half Moon and on Tuesday a well-attended bingo at the Porth Hotel.

Wednesday was a mixed evening of sumo wrestling, treasure hunt, teddy bear’s picnic , bbq and children’s treasure hunt.

Despite a wet evening it was well attended and enjoyed by all.

WI

MEETING was held at the Porth Hotel on Thursday, 22 June, at 2.30pm.

Vice president Rhian Thomas was in the chair and welcomed everyone to the Ascot Ladies Day Gold Cup. After business was read and discussed, members were given the opportunity to place bets on horses in races during the afternoon in the capable hands of Rhodri and between the races delicious tea was served by the staff.

While members were enjoying their tea, Rhodri and Sarah, proprietors of the hotel, had the difficult task of choosing the best hat worn on the day: 1st was Lone; 2nd, Patsy and 3rd, Hazel.

Eiola Butler thanked the Porth Hotel for the lovely welcome and delicious tea and to everyone involved in making it a successful and enjoyable day.

The next meeting will be held at the Tyssul Hall on Thursday, 6 July, at 7.30pm.

The guest speaker will be David Cooper, giving a talk on The Crown Jewels.
