THE president Rhian Thomas welcomed members and guests to the February meeting held at Tysul Hall.

With business matters over, Jane Kerr and Susan James updated news on the library, which is being taken over by a team of volunteers and opening on 3 March.

The short mat bowls sessions at the leisure centre have been well attended and will continue fortnightly on Tuesdays from 1pm to 3pm; everyone welcome.

The guest speaker for the evening, linguist Phillip Ainsworth, entertained members with a journey through some of the many various languages he had experienced. Using amusing anecdotes he highlighted some pitfalls when trying to communicate. The vote of thanks given by Judith Roberts.

The competition for an old postcard was won by Yvonne Bowen, Celia Jones second, and Susan James third.

The next meeting will be on 8 March (not 1 March) at Tysul Hall at 7.30pm, theme ‘The Taste of Wales’, competition a lovespoon.
