Madam,

The suggested closure of Llandysul Library appears to be against the legal responsibilities of Ceredigion County Council.

As I understand it the council has a statutory duty to provide a comprehensive and efficient library service for all who wish to make use of it. This duty includes both the provision of an appropriate range of books and other information materials, together with access to advice in their use and the encouragement of both adults and children to make full use of the service.

If the nearest services are in Cardigan, Aberaeron, Lampeter or Carmarthen (another authority’s responsibility even) such responsibilities and encouragement cannot be carried out as far as residents of Llandysul are concerned.

Yours etc
