A LLANARTH family will be climbing Mount Snowdon to raise £500 to help fund the purchase of educational toys for their local school and for Aberaeron hospital.

Philip Jones - an installation and support technician at Newcastle Emlyn-based IT company BCC – will be accompanied by family members on the hike in August including young sons Mattie, six, and Elliot, four.

The family will be raising money for Aberaeron Paediatric Audiology Hospital as well as funds to help develop learning spaces at Ysgol Llanarth primary school.

“Mattie was diagnosed with unilateral deafness at four years of age,” said Philip. “With the support and hard work of these amazing people, our son has been able to thrive.

“We are taking on the challenge of climbing Mount Snowdon in August to raise money to say thank you and to help them continue supporting and encouraging children of all abilities.

“We are aiming to raise as much as we can to enable new educational toys to be purchased for the hospital, a vital tool to aid in encouraging very young children to complete hearing tests, which hopefully, with the help of such a fantastic team of staff, enables successful diagnosis at an early age."
