A DANCER from Llandysul has launched a fundraising campaign to enable her to represent the UK in the World Hip Hop Championships in Arizona, USA in August.
University student Karla McKeown was part of the dance crew, Unity UK, who won the megacrew division of the British Championships in February, also receiving the highest points out of any team in any category.
“To be a part of such a team is one of my proudest achievements to date,” said Karla. “Tashan Muir, our choreographer, is responsible for many of the dance school’s past successes and performances including Got to Dance and Alesha’s golden buzzer act ‘Entity Allstars’ on Britain’s Got Talent.
“Hip Hop International is one of the biggest dance competitions in the world. Championships are held in over 47 countries, the top teams from each of these championships then qualify for the world championships.
“There is no dance competition bigger than this and the platform is huge. It’s like the Olympics for dancers and will probably be the biggest thing I’m ever going to do.
“Unfortunately there is no funding the way that there is for sports teams representing the UK at international events so I’m currently on a fundraising campaign in the hope of gathering the remaining funds needed to secure my flights to compete.
“If anyone would be interested in sponsoring me, would like to know more about my road to Arizona, or would like to organise workshops in their area for any ages I’d be eager to hear any ideas and get involved.”
