THE main A487 road through Llanrhystud was closed on Saturday night after the tyre of a tanker blew and caught fire.

Fire crews from Aberystwyth and Aberaeron were called out to deal with the incident at around 7.30pm on 7 November which saw the road closed for over an hour causing traffic misery for drivers in both directions.

The driver of the Mansel Davies tanker was forced to pull in on the side of the road opposite the Llanrhystud VOSA testing station following the blow out which left the tyre on fire.

The cab of the tanker was uncoupled at the side of the road, bringing the area to a standstill before the arrival of firefighters.

Firefighters hosed down the burning tyre and made the area safe before the road was re-opened to traffic.

The road was fully re-opened at around 9.30pm.
