Madam,

Do you ask yourself: if Ceredigion County Council, the Welsh Assembly and Westminster Government are fit for purpose?

Are education, emergency services and the health service safe in their hands now and in the future, within the public sector?

Would you choose to live in an area where your children would have to travel excessive distances to a school? Would you live in a county, if you knew that major towns do not have police stations open 24 hours a day?Why are there no cottage hospitals in Aberaeron, Lampeter etc to assist those not able to go home following hospital treatment?

How is it in Aberystwyth we do not have the fire station manned for 24 hours a day? In the last 30 years all these public services have seen detrimental changes. It is four years since we started the Save Park Avenue Day Centre campaign. Why didn’t Ceredigion County Council negotiate with the Mill Street developers for a like-for-like day centre or incorporate the purpose built day centre in the development?

I with the other vigilists will at midday on Saturday, 21 November walk from outside Bodlondeb residential home up to Pendinas, down to Owain Glyndwr Square close to Tesco’s corner shop and then to Park Avenue by 3pm for our 209th vigil. Join the march. I hope that common sense will prevail.

Last week I went to the funeral of a very close friend. She was cared for 40 miles away. Don’t sell Bodlondeb.

Yours etc

Dai Thomas, Llwyn yr Eos, Southgate, Aberystwyth.
