ABERAERON’s athletes were among the medals when they represented the Dyfed Primary Schools team in their match against West Glamorgan at Johnstown.
All those that took part in the competition were selected after finishing in the top four at the respective Dyfed Primary Schools and West Glamorgan Primary Schools events, held over recent weeks.
Dyfed claimed the top positions in several events, including the sprint, middle distance and relays, with the overall final score of Dyfed 179, West Glamorgan 100.
Aberaeron runner Rhys Jenkins led the way for the Dyfed Schools team by winning the gold medal in the 800m in 2.32.6.
Also representing Ysgol Aberaeron, Steffan Hopkins won the bronze medal in the 70m in 14.2; Lowri Jones was third in the shot put in 5.73m, and Bryn Southgate was fifth in the high jump with 1.20m.
Kasper Kracewicz of Bro Pedr, Lampeter won gold in the shot put with 7.95m.
On a sunny evening, watched by a decent crowd it proved to be a good home win for a strong Dyfed Schools team, to continue their good form from the cross country in Margam Park in the winter.
They were presented with their awards by the Mayor of Carmarthen, Alun Lenny.
