PORTHMADOG have announces the signing of experienced attacker Darren Thomas.

Widely known across Welsh football as ‘The Cofi Messi’ for his creativity, skill, and huge influence — Thomas joins the Traeth after a long and successful spell with Caernarfon Town, where he won the Welsh Cup in 2026 and made over 430 appearances for the club.

A former Porthmadog player earlier in his career, he now returns with extensive Cymru Premier and European experience, bringing leadership, creativity, and proven quality to the squad.

Chris Jones, CPD Porthmadog manager said: “Darren is a player who has consistently performed at the highest level. His experience, passion and influence on the pitch will be a massive addition for us. We’re excited to see the impact he’ll have at the Traeth.”

Caernarfon Town manager Richard Davies said: “I’m absolutely gutted and devastated to see Daz leave the club. He has played a huge part in our success and will always be remembered as a Caernarfon Town legend.

“When I was appointed manager, I handed him the captain’s armband because I knew exactly what this club meant to him. Seeing him lift the Welsh Cup and fulfil a boyhood dream is something that will stay with me forever.

“To become the first captain to lead the club into Europe is also one of the proudest moments of his career.

“Football clubs are defined not only by trophies but by the people within them, and Daz is one of the biggest characters in the domestic game. I’ll miss the laughs, the coffees and the pints.

“I wanted him to finish his career here and tried to persuade him to stay, but we respected his wish to play regularly.

“He leaves with my full respect and gratitude, and I wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
