ABERYSTWYTH darts player Martin Thomas is through to the playoff final of the Modus Online Live League.
The Penparcau man topped group A with 13 wins out of 15 matches spread out over three days in Southampton this week against Terry Jenkins, Carl Wilkinson, Robert Rickwood, Jarred Cole, and Paul Hogan.
After returning home to practice 48-year-old Martin, a bricklayer by trade, returns to Southampton tonight in time for the televised final held tomorrow night.
If successful he will qualify for the finals to be held in August.
Martin, whose nickname is Tom’o and walks out to Billy Ocean’s Red Light Spells Danger, has also been called up to the pro tour and will head up to Coventry straight after to compete in the PDC Super Series 5 at the Ricoh Arena from 5-8 July.
After finishing ninth in the Qualifying School event earlier this year he just missed out on a tour card but was placed on stand-by has now been called up as a replacement.
“I’m absolutely buzzing, I cannot be happier, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Martin on his call-up.
Listing qualifying for the Ladbrokes 2021 UK Open as his biggest achievement in darts to date he added: “I’m enjoying it and getting paid to play.”
Ahead of tomorrow’s finals he added: “There’s no pressure at all, I’m just going there and if it’s meant to be it’s meant to be.
“I’m just going to go there and try my best. I’m enjoying my darts and if they click they click and if they don’t there’s nothing you can do about it.
“Sometimes you can put too much pressure on yourself and then you don’t enjoy it.”
The playoff final of the Modus Online Live League will be beamed live on Sky Channel 437 and www.youtube.com/c/OnlineDartsTVOfficial at10pm tomorrow night.
